Paeonia 'Angel Cheeks'
Large blowsy blooms, everything a peony should be...and more, because its sweet fragrance will knock you out!. The blooms are a clear pale pink with large outer petals cupping a fluffy raised centre. this peony is a shortie at around 70cm and rarely needs staking. (C.Klehm).

This stunning combination of romance and drama, this peony is everything that its name evokes. The most beautiful bomb shaped double flowers of purest white often with a hint of cream in the centre. Fragrant and with strong stems, a dependable peony for a cutting garden, growing to around 85cm in height.

Paeonia 'Buckeye Belle'
This deep blood red very early flowering semi double peony from the United States is one of our clear favorites. It certainly commands attention. The colour is as bold as some of the tulips and the golden stamens peek out from among the petals. Flowering will often be in the middle of May. May be as tall as 90cm, but rarely needs staking.

Paeonia 'Bunker Hill'
One of the very best fragrant peonies for cutting. Abundant, bright rosy red blooms, sometimes described as 'tyrian rose', are produced in great profusion. A very dependable stalwart for the flower border, this fine peony has a strong bushy habit and grows to around 90cm with fine dark foliage.

Paeonia 'Claire de Lune'
White-Wild 1954) This astonishing peony is a result of a cross between P.lactiflora and P.mlokosewitschi. The result is a peony hybrid producing a profusion of single pale lemon blooms with a bright golden centre. Very early flowering usually in early May. Broad green leaves making this plant instantly recognizable even when not in flower. A singularly beautiful peony which is quite slow growing but absolutely worth the wait. Height approx 80cm.

Paeonia 'Dinner Plate'
The most glorious of peonies... the clue is in the name! Enormous soft pink fragant flowers, the broad outer petals have a paler edge, which hold the ruffled petals in the centre. Cheeky yellow stamens peek through the petals as well. This is a strong growing and robust peony that rewards plenty of feed and a prime position in the sun and will grow to around 90cm in height and will rarely need staking.

Paeonia 'Doctor Alexander Fleming'
A beautiful hybrid between the famous peonies Bunker Hill and Sarah Bernhardt. Rounded blooms of deep apple blossom pink with a sweet scent. Freely produced side buds extend the flowering period so that this charming peony may still be in flower right at the end of June. It has a short dense bushy habit with good foliage and will grow to a height of approximately 90cm. This peony is definitley in our top 10! (Kelway)

Paeonia 'Duchesse de Nemours'
This grand old lady is one of the oldest peonies, bred in France in 1856, and it is certainly the most famous double white peony grown in thousands of gardens around the world. Large double flowers with incurving petals of pure white that are lemony green at the base. Free flowering and highly scented, it is also one of the earlier flowering peonies generally opening in early June so it is an excellent choice for prolonging the flowering season.This is a shorter variety growing to approx 85cm making it a great choice for a windy garden. (Calot 1856).

Paeonia Early Windflower
Paeonia 'Early Windflower' (Saunders). This exqusite little peony is the counterpart to "Late Windflower" and flowers about 10 days earlier. Beautiful medium sized white flowers with exquisite charm which are borne freely. Pale green very dissected foliage; a very fresh verdure. An early peony, flowering in late April and early May. Ht. 75-90 cms. One of the gems of the spring garden, thriving well in a shady spot, and is one of the most reliable early flowering peonies.

Paeonia 'Felix Crousse'
(Crousse 1881) Large globe shaped magenta purple flowers that have a rich scent. An extremely good cutting variety grown extensively for commercial cut flower production across the world. This is a very famous peony from one of the great French nurseries which has stood the test of time. Mid season flowering. Medium height approx 90cm.

Paeonia 'Florence Nicholls'
A very large double peony, exquisite form and an intoxicating sweet scent. The petals are broad and wide, the flower opening blush pink and paling around the edges to pure white. Height to around 90cm. This is a really great peony for the border, excellent for cutting. (Nicholls 1938)

Paeonia 'Inspecteur Lavergne'
A fine and handsome peony with large globe shaped flowers of intense crimson red with a few frilly petals in the centre. This classic french peony has long straight stems which makes it excellent for cutting, the blooms lasting a long time in water and their fragrance filling a room. Grows to around 85cm in height and rarely needs staking.(Doriat 1924)
Paeonia 'Jan Van Leeuwen'
Stunning and very unusual! This wonderful peony in the "japanese" style is an absolute favourite of ours, with large single flowers of purest white without any sign of pink. In the centre of each bloom is a crest of bright yellow much narrower petals, punctuated with bright green carpels which are the potential seed pods. Distinctly this is also one of the very few peonies where the emerging shoots in the spring are bright green, rather than the pinky red "dear rosy snouts" as described by Gertrude Jekyll the famous 19th centruy garden designer. Attains around 90cm in height and rarely needs staking. (Van Leeuwen 1928).

Paeonia 'Kansas'
A magnificent peony that never creases to impress us with it's reliability to produce masses of large bomb shaped blooms in a vibrant shade of watermelon red. Everything about it ticks all the boxes. Great foliage, strong stems, good for cutting, fragrant, long lasting flowers...whats not to like! Grows to around 90cm in height and rarely needs staking. (Bigger 1940).

Paeonia 'Kelway's Glorious'
Said to be one of the best peonies ever bred! Very large bomb shaped double flowers of pure white with the occasional red fleck. The flowers have the most sensational scent. It's also a really good variety for cutting. Forms a sturdy plant growing to a height of arund 90cm and although it takes a while to establish but most definitely worth the wait! (Kelway 1909).

Paeonia 'Krinkled White'
A crushingly beautiful single white peony exhibiting a tinge of blush pink as the buds open. As the name suggests the petals are slightly crinkled at the edges. This early flowering peony is one of the shorter ones growing to just 80cm or so and makes a very worthy garden plant. (Brand 1928).

Paeonia 'Lady Alexandra Duff'
(Kelway 1902) This is one of Kelways finest introductions. Very large double blooms with rose pink guard petals and an inner raised crown of paler flesh pink to cream petals. The side flowers which are freely produced tend to be more semi-double. The blooms have the most alluring fragrance. Mid season flowering, and growing to a medium height of about 90cm.

Paeonia 'Marie Lemoine'
(Calot 1869) A classic nineteenth century peony which is still adored 140 years later. Large globe shaped flowers of soft creamy white. Similar to Duchesse de Nemours, but possibly a little more yellow in the centre of the bloom. The sweetly scented flowers are particularly good for cutting. A later flowering variety which is also shorter growing to 85cm so it rarely needs staking.

Paeonia 'Nymphe'
Single peonies often thrive better in shade than their more blowsydouble counterparts and this lovely cultivar is one of the very best. Pretty single flowers of apple blossom pink which are delightfully fragrant. A free flowering peony which quickly forms a sturdy plant smothered with blooms. This is a later flowering variety which grows to around 90cm in height and has particualry good weather resistance. (Desert1913).

The pretty pink form of 'Granny's cottage garden peony'. The peony that everybody knows or remembers! Deep pink double blooms of a rich hue which will gradually pale as the flower ages. Flowers generally in mid May and est given some support as the large flowers are extremely heavy. Shorter variety growing to 50cm. A wonderful peony of ancient origin evoking memories of times gone by.

Rather like a highly refined version of the endearing Cottage Garden Peony, this fantastic hybrid between P.lactiflora and P.officinalis has produced a sturdy plant with magnificent deep blood red double flowers. No noticable scent but a peony to make a statement with! Early flowering from the end of May which gives a marvellous opportunity to extend the peony season. Paeonia 'Sarah Bernhardt'
The most famous and best loved of all garden peonies. Large double flowers of apple blossom pink which are very sweetly perfumed
A taller peony often growing to 95cm, so it is ideal for the back of the border although it may sometimes need staking. This is probably the most widely grown cut flower peony in the world, flowers are freely produced often to the end of June so it is great for extending the flowering season.
The Sarah Bernhardt peony was introduced in 1906 by the French breeder Monsieur Lemoine and named after Sarah Bernhardt, a French actress - some say the most famous actress the world has ever known.
She actually had a coffin in which she often slept instead of a bed, as she believed it helped her understand her many tragic roles. . The saying "doing a Sarah Bernhardt" refers to having a melodramatic moment, a tribute to Sarah's extraordinary talent for tragic drama.

Paeonia Scarlet Heaven
Single flowered variety with bright scarlet blooms which shout! Since most true scarlet peonies are early spring flowering, this one really extends the colour range of late flowering peonies to include this phenomenal colour. Deep dark foliage.

Paeonia 'Solange'
(Lemoine 1907) Large full double of creamy white with a suffusion of pale salmon pink in the depths of the flower. These gorgeous scented blooms are very long lasting. The foliage is good with dark and strong stems. Good autumn colour. A later flowering peony growing to about 90cm.

(Winchell 1956). This has to be one of the most unique of all the japanese style peonies. Bright pale beetroot coloured guard petals cup a centre of buff coloured petaloids, which fade to white as the flowers open wide. This startling peony is mid season flowering and will grow to a height of around 85cm.

(Hoogendoorn 1949) The most famous single white peony and one that seems to do particularly well in a shady position.
