Instructions
Sarcococcas prefer a partially shaded position and a rich, moderately fertile soil that does not dry out in the summer. If growing in a pot, use John Innes No 3 compost. When planting, incorporate lots of organic matter such as well-rotted manure or leaf mould. Once established, they are pretty self-reliant and require very little input. A spring feed of a slow release granular fertiliser is ideal, preferably one of those suitable for Camellias and Rhododendrons.
They are rarely bothered by pests and generally require no pruning, though if you want to prune them, the best time to do this is in the spring once they have finished flowering.
