Paeonia Daedalus
Paeonia Daedalus
Nassos Daphnis (1914-2010) was an abstract artist, sculptor and tree peony breeder who is responsible for some of the finest hybrids ever produced. These plants are rarely available and highly sought after. This particular hybrid has semi double flowers of the deepest dark burgundy red. The petals are the texture of dark silk and have a glowing quality. The large centres have bright yellow anthers and a stunning contrast to the darker petals. Flowers in late May. Daedalus is a vigorous hybrid with distinct foliage often rimmed red in the spring and will attain a height of around 150cm high and 100cm wide but can be kept smaller by periodic pruning. A glowing centre piece to a peony collection. Very limited stock.

Paeonia Icarus
Paeonia Icarus
(Nassos Daphnis 1977) F2 Hybrid. Nassos Daphnis (1914-2010) was an abstract artist, sculptor and tree peony breeder who is responsible for some of the finest hybrids ever produced. These plants are rarely available and highly sought after. This distinct hybrid is a single with pure red flowers. There are two rows of petals. The centre petals reach for the sky whilst the outer petals stretch out like wings. And for anyone who remembers their Greek mythology, Icarus tried to escape from Crete with wings made by his father, but he ignored his fathers warning and flew too close to the sun, the heat melted his feathers and he plunged to the Aegean Sea and drowned. The blooms have a light fragrance. Forms a robust and bushy shrub up to about 120cm high and 100cm wide. Very limited stock.

Paeonia Vesuvian
Paeonia Vesuvian
(Saunders 1942) For us, this is the very latest flowering of all the tree peonies that we grow, often still in bloom towards the end of June. The double blooms are medium size, but a mature plant will be full of flowers. Deep dark black red, with dramatic purple undertones. The buds have sharply pointed tips and almost look like rosebuds. This is a short grower and rarely attains much more than 100cm high and wide. The foliage is finely cut and is deep red as it emerges, with the colour slowly fading back to the tips as the leaves unfurl. Scarce and rarely available to purchase, this is rare opportunity to obtain one of the most special of all tree peonies. Very limited stock.
