John Morgan joined Kelway’s Nursery at the age of 14 and was there for 33 years. His father and brother also worked there. He was a seed tester and specialised in exotic blooms. He knew the Latin names of them all.
During the First World War he served with the Grenadier Guards in France. After the war he returned to Kelway’s. In 1940 he left Kelway’s to become a Caretaker at Huish Episcopi Secondary Modern School. He worked there for over 20 years until his retirement at the age of 68. He then went back to Kelway’s Nursery part time, growing cucumbers for seed. Sometimes he would bring the seeds home to dry in his fireplace.
