A taller peony often growing to 95cm, so it is ideal for the back of the border although it may sometimes need staking. This is probably the most widely grown cut flower peony in the world, flowers are freely produced often to the end of June so it is great for extending the flowering season.
The Sarah Bernhardt peony was introduced in 1906 by the French breeder Monsieur Lemoine and named after Sarah Bernhardt, a French actress - some say the most famous actress the world has ever known.
She actually had a coffin in which she often slept instead of a bed, as she believed it helped her understand her many tragic roles. . The saying "doing a Sarah Bernhardt" refers to having a melodramatic moment, a tribute to Sarah's extraordinary talent for tragic drama.

Paeonia 'Coral Charm'
The amazing colour changing peony which has become one of the most popular for the cut flower market worldwide. The buds open salmon pink and gradually change to orange and finally to yellow. Early flowering during May. Thrives best in soils that are not too wet in the winter. The pictures exhibit the range of colours throughout flowering. Grows to approx 90cm in height . Paeonia 'Coral Sunset'
A peony that really does change colour! Semi double blooms open a pink coral colour, then as they mature the colour changes to apricot and finally a soft yellow. With a mature plant holding flowers of all these shades simultaneously. This is one of the best of all peonies and no collection is complete without it. Early flowering, during May and growing to approx 90cm in height. One of the most popular peonies used in the worldwide cut flower market. (Wissing-Klehm 1981).
Paeonia 'Doctor Alexander Fleming'
A beautiful hybrid between the famous peonies Bunker Hill and Sarah Bernhardt. Rounded blooms of deep apple blossom pink with a sweet scent. Freely produced side buds extend the flowering period so that this charming peony may still be in flower right at the end of June. It has a short dense bushy habit with good foliage and will grow to a height of approximately 90cm. This peony is definitley in our top 10! (Kelway)

Paeonia 'Solange'
(Lemoine 1907) Large full double of creamy white with a suffusion of pale salmon pink in the depths of the flower. These gorgeous scented blooms are very long lasting. The foliage is good with dark and strong stems. Good autumn colour. A later flowering peony growing to about 90cm.

Paeonia 'Bowl of Beauty'
What to say about one of the most deservedly famous of all peonies! A large bright pink bowl shaped flower, with a frothing centre of narrow creamy coloured petals. A strikingly lovely fragrant peony for the flower border which will never disappoint and is often the first peony that most people buy. It is sometimes still in flower towards the end of June and grows to a height of approximately 90cm. Most highly recommended! (Hoogendoorn 1949)
Paeonia 'Nymphe'
Single peonies often thrive better in shade than their more blowsydouble counterparts and this lovely cultivar is one of the very best. Pretty single flowers of apple blossom pink which are delightfully fragrant. A free flowering peony which quickly forms a sturdy plant smothered with blooms. This is a later flowering variety which grows to around 90cm in height and has particualry good weather resistance. (Desert1913).

Paeonia 'Marie Lemoine'
(Calot 1869) A classic nineteenth century peony which is still adored 140 years later. Large globe shaped flowers of soft creamy white. Similar to Duchesse de Nemours, but possibly a little more yellow in the centre of the bloom. The sweetly scented flowers are particularly good for cutting. A later flowering variety which is also shorter growing to 85cm so it rarely needs staking.

Paeonia 'Catharina Fontijn'
If you want one of the best of all white peonies for cutting then this is one to plant! The buds are slow to open, teasing you with the promise of the wonderful display to come. They start off showing a pale pink blush but quickly turn to pure white. These large and beautiful flowers are both sweetly scented and long lasting making them really good for cutting. Although a taller growing peony often to around 95cm or so, it is a good one for the back of the border, and its strong dark stems mean that staking is rarely necessary. (Van der Valk 1952).

Paeonia 'Bunker Hill'
One of the very best fragrant peonies for cutting. Abundant, bright rosy red blooms, sometimes described as 'tyrian rose', are produced in great profusion. A very dependable stalwart for the flower border, this fine peony has a strong bushy habit and grows to around 90cm with fine dark foliage.

Paeonia 'Karl Rosenfield'
If you buy or are lucky enough to receive a bunch of cutflower peonies, the chances are that the red ones will be 'Karl Rosenfield' which is the most commonly commercial cut flower peony grown around the world. It realiably produces its bright globe shaped bright crimson red flowers in abundance, with good strong stems that last exceptionally well in water. One of the best garden peonies too forming a neat plant to around 85cm in height, An extra advantage is that it is relatively late flowering well into the latter part of June. (Rosenfield1908).

Mothers Choice is one of the best of all peonies for cutting. Very large creamy white flowers which are wonderfully fragrant and very long lasting. The plants themselves have glossy green leaves and strong stems that rarely need staking. This marvellous peony grows to approximately 90cm in height and is one of the last to flower making. (Glasscock 1950).

(Crousse 1881) Large globe shaped magenta purple flowers that have a rich scent. An extremely good cutting variety grown extensively for commercial cut flower production across the world. Paeonia 'Bartzella'
This beautiful peony has large double flowers of intense sulphur yellow and is incredibly floriferous and easy to grow. Making a vigorous bush up to about 75cm in height with deep green broad leaves. Late flowering, it is a joy to behold and cannot be praised highly enough. An ideal first foray into the exceptional world of intersectional peonies.

Paeonia 'Dinner Plate'
The most glorious of peonies... the clue is in the name! Enormous soft pink fragant flowers, the broad outer petals have a paler edge, which hold the ruffled petals in the centre. Cheeky yellow stamens peek through the petals as well. This is a strong growing and robust peony that rewards plenty of feed and a prime position in the sun and will grow to around 90cm in height and will rarely need staking.

Paeonia 'Jan Van Leeuwen'
Stunning and very unusual! This wonderful peony in the "japanese" style is an absolute favourite of ours, with large single flowers of purest white without any sign of pink. In the centre of each bloom is a crest of bright yellow much narrower petals, punctuated with bright green carpels which are the potential seed pods. Distinctly this is also one of the very few peonies where the emerging shoots in the spring are bright green, rather than the pinky red "dear rosy snouts" as described by Gertrude Jekyll the famous 19th centruy garden designer. Attains around 90cm in height and rarely needs staking. (Van Leeuwen 1928).

Paeonia 'Honey Gold'
Dreamy and wonderful blowsy blooms of creamy white with a large pale yellow centre of narrow tufted petals. The flowers are very sweetly scented with strong stems, making them very suitable for cutting and they last well in water. A particulary robust cultivar which rarely needs staking, this is an exceptional flowering perennial for the garden growing to around 90cm in height.

A really striking and joyful peony, with large saucer shaped flowers of bright cerise pink which cup a centre of tufted narrow white petals. A shorter growing peony to around 75cm making it ideal for the more exposed border. This lovely peony is always very popular. (Auten 1933).

(Kelway 1902) This is one of Kelways finest introductions. Very large double blooms with rose pink guard petals and an inner raised crown of paler flesh pink to cream petals. This truly marvellous semi-double peony opens blush pink and quickly turns white whilst retaining a yellow glow at the base of the petals. Paeonia 'High Noon'
This is without a doubt the easiest to grow and most rewarding of all the hybrid tree peonies. Medium sized semi-double yellow flowers with raspberry flares at the base of each petal. The blooms have a strong fragrance which is quite an unusual feature for a tree peony. Forms a vigorous shrub with dissected foliage and can soon attain 1.5m in height in as little as 5 years from planting. An added bonus is that it may often throw up a few extra flowers in the autumn. 100% recommended!
Erigeron karvinskianus
An interesting and unusual plant having a two-tone effect with masses of white daisy flowers turning pink as they age. Particularly attractive to bees and butterflies, these plants are suitable for cracks in paving, border edges, tumbling over a wall and so much more.
Geranium 'Rozanne'
Large, saucer-shaped, violet-blue flowers throughout the summer and often well into autumn above wonderful, marbled rich green foliage. An incredibly floriferous variety voted as Plant of the Centenary as the 2013 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Paeonia Early Windflower
Paeonia 'Early Windflower' (Saunders). This exqusite little peony is the counterpart to "Late Windflower" and flowers about 10 days earlier. Beautiful medium sized white flowers with exquisite charm which are borne freely. Pale green very dissected foliage; a very fresh verdure. An early peony, flowering in late April and early May. Ht. 75-90 cms. One of the gems of the spring garden, thriving well in a shady spot, and is one of the most reliable early flowering peonies.

Said to be one of the best peonies ever bred! Very large bomb shaped double flowers of pure white with the occasional red fleck. The flowers have the most sensational scent. It's also a really good variety for cutting. Forms a sturdy plant growing to a height of arund 90cm and although it takes a while to establish but most definitely worth the wait! (Kelway 1909).
Paeonia 'Souvenir de Maxime Cornu'
Also known as Kinkaku. Fully double flowers with dusky yellow petals edged with light carmine. The colour intensifies as the blooms mature. The buds are hard and nut like, and almost as you blink explode into these huge orbs of colour. The large heavy flowers naturally hang just like a fuchsia. This marvellous tree peony forms a free flowering multi stemmed shrub, which will often still be in flower in early June. Particularly good if grown in a tall pot or on top of a wall where the flowers can be appreciated from below. Height and spread after 8 years approx 120cm x 90cm.
Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert'
Valued for late summer and autumn displays of single, white flowers with yellow centres, this vigorous variety is excellent for herbaceous or mixed borders. In colder areas, apply a mulch in late autumn to help protect the plant over winter.
Paeonia 'Boule de Neige'
(Calot 1867) One of the classic 19th century french peonies, huge bomb shaped flowers of pure white, with a yellow suffusion towards the centre. What sets this peony apart is crimson flecking, which varies infinitely from flower to flower and can be prominent, or barely there making each flower a surprise. A reliable garden peony growing to about 90cm in height, free flowering over a long period, the flowers having a light and distinct fragrance.

Paeonia 'Duchess of Kent'
Really large tulip shaped buds open slowly over several days to reveal enormous double flowers of a clear deep rose red. As the blooms mature they start to take on an unusual violet hue which can even shimmer with a hint of blue. This is a vigorous growing plant which flowers freely from a young age. The stems are an attractive red and the red leaf stalks give continued interest when not in flower. Later flowering, so a good one to have to extend the flowering period of a group of tree peonies. Also known as Eternal Camellias. One of the best of all tree peonies and ideal for a first foray into these beautiful plants. Large semi double flowers of bright coral pink with silky smooth petals. Paeonia 'General MacMahon'
A classic nineteenth century french peony. Usually described as deep solferino red this is an intriguing colour aptly describing it's large globe shaped double flowers which seem to glow from within, and are excellent and long lasting when picked and displayed in a vase. The foliage is deep green and is distinctly ribbed. Growing to around 90cm in height this is a handsome and dramatic peony which tends to flower quite late in June making an ideal one to prolong the peony season. (Calot 1867)

Perennial grass forming a neat clump of bright green leaves producing silvery-white flower panicles in late summer.
Paeonia 'Rinpo'
Also known as 'Bird of Rinpo'. A most magnificent tree peony of ancient origin. The large semi double blooms open very flat in a most unusual way. The colour is described by the Japanese as Botan purple and the petals have silvery edges. A very late flowering plant. The buds tantalise you for what seems like weeks before they finally fully open. Height and spread after 8 years approx 100cm x 90cm
Paeonia 'Claire de Lune'
White-Wild 1954) This astonishing peony is a result of a cross between P.lactiflora and P.mlokosewitschi. The result is a peony hybrid producing a profusion of single pale lemon blooms with a bright golden centre. Very early flowering usually in early May. Broad green leaves making this plant instantly recognizable even when not in flower. A singularly beautiful peony which is quite slow growing but absolutely worth the wait. Height approx 80cm.

A very large double peony, exquisite form and an intoxicating sweet scent. The petals are broad and wide, the flower opening blush pink and paling around the edges to pure white. Height to around 90cm. This is a really great peony for the border, excellent for cutting. (Nicholls 1938)

Paeonia 'Krinkled White'
A crushingly beautiful single white peony exhibiting a tinge of blush pink as the buds open. As the name suggests the petals are slightly crinkled at the edges. This early flowering peony is one of the shorter ones growing to just 80cm or so and makes a very worthy garden plant. (Brand 1928)
