A spectacular and unusual plant, originating from the highlands of Ethiopia, Acanthus sennii has incredibly spiky, holly-like leaves with prominent white veining and produces a central spike of bright orange-red flowers from late summer into autumn. Surprisingly hardy, it will die back in autumn and reemerge in spring, but can also be grown in a lare pot in a conservatory where it may produce an evergreen display. Shelter from strong winds and cane the stems to offer extra support. Keep dry in winter to prevent root rot.
