I have grown Jane Philips for about ten years. I bought 3 plants from kelways, and over the years they have steadily increased giving a magnificent display in May. The blooms are large, shapely and a wonderful blue, and as a bonus they have a sweet perfume. If you only have room for one iris, then this iris must be considered the strongest contender for that space.

I used to grow Jane Phillips, obtained from Kelways, in my old garden, where it thrived so I took a piece of root to plant in my new garden in Wembley when I moved. Within 2 years, it flowered. It is as lovely as I remembered it. The soft scent is particularly nice as it wafts over the garden path. Its subtle colour goes with everything. And it is totally undemanding. A real gem
